Turowski AIA, NCARB Stephen Kelleher Architects 57 Alden Road Fairhaven, MA 02719 Office: (508) 992-2007 Local Architect, Peter Turowski, AIA was recently honored at the State House as part of the design team for the Williamstown Elementary School and New Hingham Regional Elementary School. While employed at Margo Jones Architects in Greenfield, MA, Mr. Turowski was design architect for the two schools. Both schools received awards from the Massachusetts School Building Authority The Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) is the new state agency which funds school construction in the Commonwealth through school building assistance grants, funded by 1 cent of sales tax revenues. The new Williamstown Elementary School and The New Hingham Regional Elementary School were 2 of 17 projects to receive awards in the Massachusetts School Building Authority’s first School Building Design Awards Program. 57 entries of schools completed within the last ten years throughout Massachusetts were submitted. The selected projects “recognize school building design successes (in the last ten years), and will help inform the Authority’s new school building regulations,” states Katherine Craven, Executive Director of the MSBA. Williamstown Elementary School was designed to use energy, water, materials and land efficiently, and received a Massachusetts Technology Collaborative Green Schools Initiative grant for rooftop photovoltaic arrays. Williamstown’s curriculum also incorporates “green” and ecological teaching into the classroom. The New Hingham School is designed in a rural Berkshire setting, and incorporates vernacular elements into the design. Both buildings are constructed with durable materials and are designed to accommodate expansion in the future. Peter Turowski is currently employed at Stephen Kelleher Architects in Fairhaven, MA where he is design architect for all new facilities planned for Horseneck Beach State Reservation in Westport, MA.
